RYAN SIMONS NABS FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON AT EAGLE RIVER

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (Feb. 24, 2007) — Though Ryan Simons has visited the podium three times this season, he hadn’t been able to climb to the top step. That all changed Saturday as Simons (No. 67 Speedwerx/Arctic Cat) netted his first victory of the season during the Pro Open portion of the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour Eagle River National Snocross at the AMSOIL Eagle River Derby Track.

Simons took the lead from Mathieu Morin (No. 27 XP-S/Ski-Doo) on lap three and cruised easily to the victory. Morin was second, earning his second podium in as many hours after winning the Pro Stock final earlier today. Mike Schultz (No. 5 Avalanche Racing/Polaris) transferred to the final from the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) and finished third.

“The points are so close right now, so it comes down to who can ride clean and stay out of trouble,” said Simons, who came into the final third in Pro Open points. “Everyone is fast out here, so it’s tough.

“Sometimes it’s nice to be out front, picking your lines,” added Simons. “Today, though, I was glad to be behind Morin for a couple of laps because he was lightning fast in the Stock final. So I held behind him, found some decent lines and, once I had some speed built up, I passed him.”
