ATV Sport Magazine Announces People’s Choice Awards For Flat Track/Super Moto Racers of the Year

MAPLE GROVE, MN (January 2, 2007) —Zac Willett, 22, has earned the 2006 ATV Sport People’s Choice Award for Flat Track/Super Moto Pro Rider of the Year. Brandon Hill and Joel Hetrick were other flat track/super moto racers honored in the eighth annual awards, which are hosted by ATV Sport magazine.

Willett, of Henderson, Ky., competed in the Pro class on a Honda 450R in both the ATVA Extreme Dirt Track and the North American Super Moto series. He earned ninth overall in the EDT series and won one round of NASMOTO racing in Wisconsin. First runner-up: Harold Goodman, Romulus, Mich.; Second runner-up: Tim Farr, Massillon, Ohio
Hill, of Cana, Va., won the 265A ATVA Extreme Dirt Track National title aboard a Honda and posted four overall class wins in 2006. At the finial two rounds of the EDT series, Hill moved up to the Pro-Am ranks. He was chosen as the 2006 ATV Sport People’s Choice Award for Flat Track/Super Moto Amateur Racer of the Year. First runner-up: Marc Noreuil, Delavan, Ill.; Second runner-up: Candace Lee, Four Oaks, N.C.

Hetrick has made a name for himself over the last several years competing in the ATV youth classes. He excels in motocross racing and the votes say he’s not too shabby in the world of dirt track ATV racing either. The Seneca, Penn., racer was selected as the winner of the 2006 ATV Sport People’s Choice Award for Flat Track/Super Moto Youth Racer of the Year. Last year, Hetrick finished second in the 90 Mod (8 to 15) class on the EDT tour. First runner-up: Ryan Harness, Bebe, Ark.; Second runner-up: Kendall Webb, Branson, Mo.
The 2006 People’s Choice Awards had the most number of votes cast in their eight-year history.

“All nominated racers deserved to win an award, however, our voters had their own favorites, and there can only be one winner, as in racing,” explained ATV Sport Editor Jerrod Kelley. “We respect the decisions made by ATV Sport magazine readers and www.atvsport.com Web site visitors.”
ATV Sport has attended the Grand National Championship MX/TT (ATVA) postseason awards banquet since its inception, in 1997. A new publication in 1998, ATV Sport gladlytook over the awards portion of the program from banquet organizer Byron Goggin, per his request. Goggin created the banquet awards to reward riders for their successful season and further recognize this growing sport. As Goggin intended, the awards were voted on by the people, hence the name. ATV Sport maintained Goggin’s vision and continued to award the “eagles” at the postseason banquet through 2005.

In their eighth year, the ATV Sport People’s Choice Awards were altered to better accommodate various racing disciplines. For the first time, awards were created for motocross, utility, flat track and cross-country racing. The awards were also taken online to coincide with our magazine redesign as well as to allow both online visitors and magazine readers the opportunity to vote for their favorite racers.
