Family Involvement- The Manshacks by Phil Cole

Michele Manshack

Besides being a wife to a top engine builder and mother to one of the fastest woman racers- what do you work as?

I was a Dental Assistant for 11 ½ years until 2006, Dee and I took over the management of Splendora MX Park, I also work in the shop to help Dee out as much as possible. I am also the best cheerleader at the track, when I am on my game I can be heard over just about anything.

How did you get involved with racing?

Once Megan was old enough to understand what racing was she decided that she wanted to give it a try.  At that time we did not have a women’s class and so I took one for the team and suited up.

What is your role with STQRA (South Texas Quad Racing Association)?

My official role was Vice President, Secretary/ Treasurer.  I also score keep, tally, signup and anything else that is required.

Do you manage to get to any of national races?

I get to as many as I can. The last few years I went to the close races, now that Megan is racing  I will be going to all of them. I would not miss them for the world.

Where you for/against your daughter racing initially?

I am for her racing, if that is what she is passionate about then I am going to do everything in my power to make sure she is happy and safe. I love racing and am very glad we are involved as a family, racing is our life and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend our family time.

How do you feel about how your daughters racing career has progressed?

I am very proud of Megan and her accomplishments and how she handles herself on and off the track.  Dee has held her back for the last couple of years thinking she may want to quit, but it is quite the opposite. We moved her out of the STQRA women’s class in 2006 and into the A class thinking she would be riding with faster riders and she would be in the back.  Boy were we wrong, she placed 2nd overall for the 2006 season, which really opened our eyes.

Do you still get nervous when she lines up on the gate?

Yes, I will always be nervous, once she is past the first turn, then I turn into the Texas Cheerleading MX Mom.

Do you think that women are starting to get the exposure they deserve?

Yes, they are starting to really get noticed and it is about time they get the respect they deserve.

These women work just as hard and are as passionate as anyone else.  With  the women’s classes growing and becoming more competitive they deserve positive reinforcement.   CHICKS RULE!!!!!!!!!!
