Myka Carpenter

One of the hardest things to aacomplish in life can be an expensive hobby combined with being a single parent. There is nothing more fullfilling than the feeling you get from rasing kids. But at the same time you have to have an outlet that allows personal satisfaction - even is the guilty pleasure is quad racing!

For Decemeber we spent a couple moments with a single mother of two who spends her free time riding and racing. And the rest of the time raising two beautiful daughters - Brook (10) and Devyn (8).

Check out our Q&A to learn a little bit more about this months number three highlight rider!

Name:

Myka Carpenter

City/St From:
Lebanon, PA

Years riding
: I grew up riding with friends when i had a chance. I never owned my own until '02.

Machine you currently prefer: YFZ450

So what kind of riding do you do?

I am strictly MX.

How come only MX? Are you a jumper; or just a speed junkie?
I needed to try something different. Before racing I was pretty quick with trail riding, and probably would be better at XC. I used to have no fear when jumping till the life flight, now I am trying to get back to it again. I do love to get on the throttle.

How often do you get to ride?
I was practicing 2 to 3 times a week but that all changes when summer is over.

Have you ever considered running the national series? Or is it simply out of reach being a single mom?
I competed at Daniel Boone in '04. I have wanted nothing but to run that series. Being a single mom does make that goal harder to reach.

Do you get to keep up with any of the national events?

I read ATV Sport Magazine and follow on quad websites.

You’ve got kids – how do they feel about you riding?
They are my biggest fans and are very supportive. I have been through many tough crashes And they also witnessed my life flight. It took a lot of talking for them to accept me racing again.

Tell us about your life flight - what happened?

I was jumping a tabletop at Rausch Creek, the lip kicked me funny and made me nosedive and I was not able to get out of it. I hit face first, was knocked out, and flipped forward with the quad 3 times.

Do you want them to ride?
They have an Eton 90 and ride around when they can. I would love for them to race.

Have any favorite riders?
Locally my favorites are my friends Randy Lehr, #110 and Dan Wertman #52.

Anyone you want to thank?
I would like to thank my '06 sponsors: East Coast ATV, Rausch Creek, GenXatv, TNT Racing, Kellner Motorsports, EVS, ASV Inventions, Utopia Optics, Tag Metals, SixSixOne, DeCal Works, SoCal Works, Regina USA, www.transamcuda.com

If you had the chance to spend the day training with anyone who would it be?
I would have to say Doug Gust.

Tell me something about yourself that most people do not know:
I served in the US Army. I was an MP and was on the post Special Reaction team, (SWAT).
