Tell us about yourself. What draws you into riding ATVs and motor sports in general?: The rush. Since I started riding an ATV, the rides in
a amusement park are boring!!!
Give us some background on your riding.: I Started on a honda TRX250 2x4 in 1991, then moved to a
TRX350 4x4. Now I'm riding a 2006 YFZ In the cross-country series here in Québec.
How much racing do you get to do?: Did 11 races this season plus two four-hour endurance
races. best finish of the year is a 5th. I've finished
in the top 10 most of the races this year.
I ride every weekend when I'm not racing.
You work for Elka – what’s that like? What do you do
there?: I'm a sales rep at Elka. The team is great. We all
ride. Some ride dirt bikes, mountain bikes and most of
us ride quads.
Being employed by an industry leader, racing
and being involved in the online world you get a lot of
exposure to all the national race series. What kind of
future do you see for the sport?: The sport is growing fast. We saw the return of
Factory involvement. And we're also getting more
exposure than ever with the likes of WPSA tour.
It's great. I hope that it'll keep on growing.
What about international racing (outside NAmerica) –
you keep up with any over seas racing?: I do keep up with what goes on in the quad racing world
overseas. Spain and Portugal have a quad racing craze
right now. It's growing so fast over there. England
also has a great racing scene.
What riders do you personally keep up with and like
to watch?:
I always liked Barry Hawk. That guy won 7 consecutive
XC championships on a quad, made the switch to dirt
bikes and won 8 on those.
I also Always liked watching JJ. He was fast and smooth.
Probably one of the most promissing racers of the MX
scene. What happend is sad and unfortunate.
I'm also keeping an eye on Chris Bithell since he came from
nowhere and almost grabbed the overall at the Ironman
GNCC last year.
So what’s it like to ride and race in Québec? Do you
ever get to come down and run in the states?: It's great riding here. We have so much trail in the
province of Québec that you could lose yourself for a
lifetime.
The XC racing scene( FMSQ ) for quads is only 4 years
old here. We're already like 115 quads on the gate
every weekend. Everybody is friendly there.
I was supposed to come down to a couple of races this
year but could'nt. but be sure that next year I'll
come down for a couple of GNCCs. I'll try to do the
ones in PA, NY... The ones that arent too far.
How does
the competition compare?: It's hard to compare the competition between us and
the USA since the XC scene is young here and we have
weather that makes it difficult to ride. Mike Cafro
and Scott Samuel came here for the last four-hour
endurance race and they said that our tracks are more
tight than the ones in the US. The track for the four-hour
was smooth and wide if you compare it to the average
track we race on. So I would like to come down and
race a GNCC to compare for myself.
What about other riding? You get to ride
bikes,Rhinos oranything like that?: I ride dirt bikes also but I'm not as good as on a
quad for the moment, I need more pratice.
If you could race any kind of machine for one season
with afull sponsored ride what would it be? Why?: That's a really good question. Probably a YFZ fully
sponsored by Yamaha factory if they decided to be
really involved.
